The design process for Rooted Home began with concept development and sketches to establish the overall tone, layout structure, and visual direction of the magazine. Early planning focused on creating a warm and inviting seasonal feel that reflected both Thanksgiving and Christmas, while ensuring the content felt approachable and family-centered. Sketching allowed ideas for hierarchy, pacing, and illustration placement to develop naturally before moving into digital production.
Original illustrations were drawn by hand to add a personal, crafted quality to the publication. These drawings were then digitized and refined in Adobe Illustrator, where they were converted into clean vector artwork.
Throughout the process, careful attention was given to typography, color, and consistency across all 16 pages. Elegant serif headlines were paired with readable sans-serif body text to maintain clarity and balance, while a warm, seasonal color palette unified the spreads. The combination of hand-drawn elements, custom textures, and thoughtful layout design helped create a publication that feels both polished and personal, reinforcing the magazine’s focus on intentional living and meaningful traditions.
